In his weekly column for Rivals.Com Adam Gorney asked if the commitment from four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada to the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday will affect the pledge from three-star signal-caller Emory Williams less than a week earlier. Without a QB commit could Florida pursue Williams more strongly than they have?

Williams is not ranked by Rivals. The 247 Sports composite rankings list Williams as the 926th player, 46th QB and 131st in Florida in the Class of 2023. Rivals ranks Rashada as the 30th prospect, third in California and sixth QB for 2023. Indiana, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin were the other Power Five programs to offer Williams.

Rashada and Williams would be the first time Miami has signed to QBs in the same class since Brad Kaaya and Malik Rosier in 2014. Miami will have an elite QB room with three top 20 signees at the position projected on the 2023 roster. Returning starting QB Tyler Van Dyke is expected to leave for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Jake Garcia who signed in 2021 and Jacurri Brown who was a 2022 signee were both in the top 20 QBs in their classes. Miami QB offensive coordinator Josh Gattis led the recruitment of Rashada. The recruitment of Williams was led by Miami QB coach Frank Ponce. The 2023 competition to be the Miami starting QB should be fierce.

"“Does Rashada’s commitment to Miami mean anything to the other Hurricanes QB commit Emory Williams? What if Florida comes harder after missing on Rashada?”"

The observation above by Gorney will be worth monitoring. Miami will be set at QB through at least 2025 with the commitment from Rashada. With Williams in the Miami class, the expectation would be that he would compete later in his Miami Hurricanes career. Miami is building a lot of depth at QB.

With the amount of depth Miami is projected to have at QB they could potentially lose someone whether or not Williams signs with them. Backup quarterbacks have frequently transferred in recent years. Quarterbacks do not have to be as patient as they were in the past with the ability to enter the transfer portal.
