Two Miami football coaches post cryptic tweets before big recruiting announcements
Assistant Director of Recruiting Edwin Pata and quarterbacks coach Frank Ponce have both sent out cryptic tweets ahead of what could be a big Friday of recruits for the Miami football program. Miami prospects edge rushers Collins Acheampong and Jaxon Howard and tight end Riley Williams are committing on Friday.
Acheampong and Williams will announce their commitments at noon eastern time on Friday per 247 Sports and Howard will be at 12:36 PM. The 247 Sports crystal balls have Acheampong committing to Michigan and Williams to Miami. Howard does not have a crystal ball projecting which program he will commit to.
The 2023 Miami class has gained a lot of momentum this month. Commitments from four-star prospects, quarterback Jaden Rashada and wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph this week have moved the 2023 Miami recruiting class to 26th nationally. A commitment from Williams would move Miami to the 17th-ranked 2023 class.
Friday begins what could be a big month for Miami gaining commitments from blue-chip prospects. About a half dozen recruits Miami is pursuing will announce their commitments during July. Miami has the potential to move into the top 10 2023 recruiting classes depending on who they gain commitments from.

The identical tweets from Pata and Ponce came an hour apart. Coaches and staff cannot comment on unsigned players. The Early Signing Period for the 2023 recruiting class is December 21 through the 23. Head coach Mario Cristobal was active for less than two weeks on the job in December 2021.
Cristobal inherited a 2022 class that ranked in the seventies. By the time the 2022 recruiting class was finalized, the Miami football program finished 16th. With a full year of recruiting, Cristobal and his staff will have a chance to exceed the 2022 Class ranking. Miami also signed the 12th best 2022 transfer class with 11 additions.
Miami has a chance to move into the top five 2023 class if they can gain sign one or two five-star prospects. The Hurricanes have not signed a top 10 class since 2018 when they finished eighth. That class for the most part did not develop close to their ranking. With Cristobal and elite staff development should improve.
