The Miami football program is the second favorite behind Michigan to gain a commitment from four-star edge rusher Collins Acheampong on Friday at 3 PM ET on the 247 Sports YouTube Channel. Acheampong was supposed to announce his commitment on June 30 but chose to push it back eight days.

All five crystal balls from 247 Sports project that Acheampong will commit to Michigan. Those were all logged on June 12 and 13. Acheampong is projected to Michigan at 74.6 percent and Miami at 22.4 per On3.Com. Rivals.Com gives Michigan a 100 percent chance for a commitment from Acheampong.

LSU and UCLA are the other finalists for Acheampong. Acheampong took official visits to LSU in May and LSU, Michigan, Miami and Washington in June per 247 Sports. Acheampong would be the first defensive lineman to commit to Miami in 2023. Five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne will announce his commitment on Friday.

This could be a big week for the 2023 Miami football class. Five-star wide receiver Jalen Brown is also announcing his commitment on Friday. Three crystal balls on Wednesday project that Brown will commit to LSU. Miami has been hot over the last 10 days with five blue-chip prospects committing to the Hurricanes.

Acheampong is the 271st ranked player, 16th athlete and 17th in California in the Class of 2023. Miami needs to build depth at edge rusher. Transfer edge rushers Mitchell Agude from UCLA and Akheem Mesidor from West Virginia and 2022 freshmen signees Nyjalik Kelly and Cyrus Moss were added during the offseason.

Agude has only one season of eligibility remaining. Mesidor will be eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. Miami has returning edge rushers Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams returning in 2022. Acheampong has been compared to former Miami edge rusher Greg Rosseau at 6’7, 254 pounds. Miami has frequently recruited length.

Acheampong has the ideal build as an edge rusher. Acheampong showed his athleticism by also playing basketball at Fairmont Prep in Anaheim, California. The tradition at Miami, NFL experience of defensive line coaches Joe Salave’a and Jason Taylor and involvement of Mario Cristobal helped attract Acheampong to the Hurricanes.
