Miami football 2023 class still short DL, RB and safety
The 2023 recruiting class for the Miami football program has a commitment from a prospect at every position except on the defensive line, running back and safety. Since June 26 Miami has received a commitment from its first defensive back and quarterback for 2023. Miami currently has the 10th ranked 2023 class.
Five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne is projected to commit to the 2023 Miami class when he announces his decision on Saturday. All six 247 Sports crystal balls logged for Wayne (with five since June 29) project him committing to Miami. Wayne would be the second five-star prospect committed to Miami for 2023.
Five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa committed to Miami on Monday. Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and safety James Williams in the 2021 class were the last pair of five-star signees for Miami in the same class. Miami has not had three five-star prospects sign in the same class since 2008.
Multiple key Miami prospects are committing throughout July. Four-star safety Jayden Bonsu is trending to Miami and will announce his commitment on July 20. Four-star DL Reuben Bain is another 2023 prospect that is trending to Miami. All seven crystal balls project Bain to commit to Miami.
Bain has not announced a commitment date. Mauigoa was the 12th 2023 Miami commit. Running back is currently a bit more unpredictable for Miami in the Class of 2023. Four-star Cedric Baxter is trending to Texas but Miami is listed in the top four. Three-star speedster Christopher Johnson is trending to Miami per On3.Com.
If Miami can flip some of the prospects projected to commit to other programs, the Hurricanes will have a chance to finish with a top-five 2023 class. Miami has not finished in the top five since signing the number one class in 2008. Mario Cristobal and his staff have quickly made an impact.
Defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae was the second-best recruiter in the country last year for Georgia per 247 Sports. Addae is leading the recruitment for Bonsu. With the current Miami football staff, the Hurricanes should routinely finish in the top 10 in the country in recruiting.
