Miami football 2023 class ninth after Jayden Wayne commitment
The commitment from five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne has moved the 2023 recruiting class for the Miami football program to ninth nationally. Miami passed Baylor and Georgia after moving up from 11th. A commitment from five-star wide receiver Jalen Brown on Friday allowed LSU to pass Miami.
Miami is .01 points behind LSU and Tennessee for the ninth-ranked 2023 recruiting class. Georgia with 12 commits is the only team in the top 14 with fewer than the 13 commitments Miami has in the 2023 class. Baylor has 22 commitments. Miami is only one of six programs with multiple 2023 five-star commits.
Offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa was the first five-star 2023 prospect to commit to Miami. Texas is the only program to have three 2023 five-star commitments. The commitment from Wayne continues the trend of Miami receiving commitments from 2023 blue-chip prospects in the last two weeks.
Wayne is the sixth blue-chip recruit to commit to Miami since June 26. The recruiting momentum for the Miami football program began with quarterback Jaden Rashada. Rashada was the first of the most recent Miami commit. Prior to the commitment from Rashada, Miami had only one four-star recruit committed for 2023.
Wide receiver Robby Washington helped set the foundation for Miami to have a top 10 2023 class prior to the hot streak for Mario Cristobal and his staff on the recruiting trail the last two weeks. Wayne is the first defensive lineman and just the third prospect on defense to commit to Miami in the 2023 class.
Three-star linebacker Bobby Washington, the twin of Robby and four-star defensive back Robert Stafford previously committed to Miami. Miami is offensive dominant in the 2023 class with their 13 current commitments. The Hurricanes are still without a defensive tackle, running back and safety in the Class of 2023.
Miami is building towards potentially entering the top five 2023 classes by the end of July. Four-star safety Jayden Bonsu is expected to commit to Miami during his announcement on July 20. Several other prospects are highly considering the Hurricanes. Mario Cristobal has quickly put his stamp on the Miami football program.
