The Miami football program ranks third nationally in the 2023 recruiting rankings among programs with a new head coach entering the 2023 season. That is a slot higher than Miami finished in the 2022 rankings among programs with new head coaches for 2022. Only LSU and Notre Dame have higher-ranked 2023 classes.
Miami currently has the ninth-ranked class overall and is third behind LSU and Notre Dame among programs with new head coaches. Notre Dame has the highest-ranked 2023 class among programs with new head coaches and is first overall. The Fighting Irish had the highest-ranked 2022 class new head coaches.
Former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman replaced Brian Kelly who left for LSU as the Fighting Irish head coach. Freeman led Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl which they lost 37-35 to Oklahoma State. Notre Dame finished the 2022 recruiting rankings with the seventh-best class.
Kelly led LSU to the 12th-ranked class overall and second-best among programs with new head coaches in 2022. LSU is currently tied for eighth with Tennessee, .01 points ahead of Miami. The Hurricanes moved up following the addition of five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne on Saturday. LSU passed the Miami football program on Friday.

The Tigers beat out Miami for a commitment from five-star Gulliver Prep wide receiver Jalen Brown. Mario Cristobal put Oregon in a good position in the 2022 class for successor Dan Lanning who was previously the defensive coordinator at Georgia. Oregon finished the 2022 recruiting cycle 13th.
Miami finished with the 16th best class in 2022. Oregon currently has the 16th best 2023 class. Cristobal and the Miami staff have gone back to the Pacific Northwest to recruit players. Wayne is originally from Tacoma, Washington before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton for his senior season this fall.
Miami has also received commitments from five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa and four-star prospect quarterback Jaden Rashada who have played high school football in California. Four-star TE commit Riley Williams Mauigoa is originally from Portland, Oregon. Mauigoa and Williams will also prep at IMG Academy beginning this fall.
