Jayden Wayne was ranked the 30th player, fifth edge rusher and ninth in Washington for 2023 by 247 Sports composite rankings earlier this week. As it stands on Sunday morning, Wayne has rankings of 41st, sixth and ninth in the 247 rankings. What happened following Wayne committing to the Miami football program?
Wayne committed to Miami on Saturday. The fall in the rankings by Wayne sent social buzz abuzz with an alleged bias against Miami. Miami fans have alleged a bias against Hurricanes’ recruits for years after their commitments. Rivals.Com gives Wayne his highest ranking as the 13th best player overall in the Class of 2023.
Rivals ranks Wayne as the second-best strongside defensive end and the top player in Washington before announcing his transfer to IMG Academy for the 2022 season. In their own rankings, 247 Sports has Wayne as the 36th best player, fifth-best edge rusher and 10th in Florida in the 2023 Class.
The ranking for Wayne dropping from a five-star to four-star player in the Class of 2023 was impacted by his ranking from ESPN and On3.Com. Wayne is the 85th best player, seventh DE and 17th in Florida by ESPN. The On3 ranking has Wayne 93rd overall, the 15th best edge rusher and 23rd in Florida for 2023.

Both 247 Sports and On3 publish their own rankings and a composite made up of the various recruiting sites. The current 247 Sports composite rankings have Wayne 41st, sixth and ninth. On3 has Wayne 36th overall, the fifth-ranked edge rusher and number one in Florida for the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Wayne actually ranks higher in the composite rankings from 247 Sports and On3 than his average ranking of 55.25 taken from those two sites plus ESPN and Rivals.
