The 2023 Miami football recruiting class moved to seventh in the 247 Sports composite rankings with the commitment from four-star linebacker Raul Aguirre on Tuesday. Miami passed Arkansas, Georgia and LSU with the Aguirre commitment. Penn State is less than two points ahead of Miami in the 247 Sports rankings.

Aguirre is just the fourth defensive player committed to the Miami football program in the Class of 2023. The 247 Sports composite rankings have Aguirre as the 121st ranked player, ninth LB and ninth player in Georgia for 2023. Aguirre preps at Fayetteville, Georgia Whitewater, but is originally from South Florida.

Aguirre chose Miami primarily over Alabama. The On3 consensus ratings list Aguirre as the 131st player, 10th LB and ninth in Georgia. Aguirre is higher in the Rivals.Com rankings at 89th, fourth and sixth. ESPN ranks Aguirre considerably lower at 184th overall and 19th in Georgia, but higher as the fifth-ranked 2023 LB.

All four services rate Aguirre as a four-star prospect. Miami has the eighth-ranked class from On3. The Hurricanes have moved up the 40s in the rankings since June 26. Quarterback commit Jaden Rashada led the move up the rankings. Aguirre is the eighth blue-chip Miami commit including Rashada since June 26.

Aguirre is the second linebacker to commit to Miami for 2023 after three-star prospect Bobby Washington in March. Miami needs to continue upgrading their talent at LB. The Hurricanes signed four-star LB Wesley Bissainthe in the 2022 class and added transfer Caleb Johnson from UCLA in the offseason.

Aguirre has excellent size at 6’2, 220 pounds. As a junior, Aguirre finished with 80 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. Aguirre should have a chance to challenge for playing time as a true freshman in 2023 with the inconsistency Miami has received at LB over the last few years. Miami should improve its LB play in the future.

Next. Miami favored for 5-star OT Samson Okunlola. dark

Mario Cristobal hired Kevin Steele and Charlie Strong as the co-defensive coordinators entering the 2022 season. Strong is also the LB coach. Steele and Strong both have extensive experience and have thrived with coaching LBs. Aguirre should be an important contributor to the Miami defense in the future.
