Tyler Van Dyke rated second best ACC QB by national website

Brad Crawford of 247 Sports examined the “College football rankings: Devin Leary, Tyler Van Dyke lead ACC quarterbacks ahead of 2022 season.” Van Dyke had a breakout season for the Miami football program in 2021. Under new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, Van Dyke should continue to lead an explosive Miami offense.

With Tyler Van Dyke starting the final nine games in 2021, Miami finished 10th nationally averaging 321.2 passing yards per game. The performance by Van Dyke last season earned him the 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Van Dyke will also work with new Miami QB coach Frank Ponce.

Van Dyke led a vertical Miami passing game in 2021. Under Gattis, Miami is expected to take more what the defense gives the Hurricanes’ offense. Miami finished 29th nationally in 2021 averaging 8.3 yards per pass attempt. Michigan where Gattis was previously the OC finished 37th averaging 8.1 YPA.

Van Dyke threw for 2,931 yards with only six interceptions last season. Only ACC Player of the Year Kenny Pickett had a higher passing efficiency than Van Dyke in the conference in 2021. Pickett finished at 165.3 and Van Dyke at 160.1. Van Dyke has a chance to be the 2022 ACC Player of the Year.

Leary was the only QB listed ahead of Van Dyke in the ACC rankings entering the 2022 season by Crawford. Leary finished with a passer efficiency rating of 157.0 with 35 touchdowns and five interceptions while throwing for 3,433 yards. Miami defeated North Carolina State 31-30 last season.

The Hurricanes and Wolfpack do not play in 2022. Leary and Van Dyke are part of a deep and talented group of 2022 ACC QBs. Other ACC QBs to watch in 2022 are returnees Sam Hartman of Wake Forest and Brennan Armstrong of Virginia and Kedon Slovis of Pittsburgh who transferred from USC.
