Miami football trending for LB Malik Bryant ahead of July 23 commitment
The Miami football program is trending for four-star linebacker Malik Bryant ahead of his July 23 commitment announcement. Bryant tweeted on Thursday he will announce his collegiate destination on July 23 at 5 PM ET. Several recruiting outlets are projecting that Bryant will commit to Miami.
Four 247 Sports crystal balls this week have been logged projecting Bryant will commit to Miami. The On3 prediction machine projects a 79 percent chance that Bryant will commit to Miami. The 247 Sports composite rankings have Bryant as the 49th overall player, third LB and 14th in Florida in the Class of 2023.
Bryant would continue the momentum for the 2023 Miami football class than began with the commitment of four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada on June 26. Miami has 14 commits in the 2023 class. Eight 2023 Miami commits are blue chips. Rashada began a run of seven commitments.
Bryant would be the third 2023 LB commit for Miami. Three-star prospect Bobby Washington committed to Miami in March and four-star Raul Aguirre earlier this week. The 2023 Miami recruiting class is currently ranked eighth. A commitment from Bryant would push Miami into the 2023 top five classes.
Bryant had 63 tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks for Jones High School in Orlando as a junior in 2021. At 6’2, 235 pounds, Bryant and the 6’2, 220 Aguirre would provide the Miami football program with much-needed size at LB for the future. Aguirre and Bryant have the potential to start as true freshmen.
Bryant is listed as an edge rusher by On3 but Miami projects Bryant at LB. Miami will gain a versatile LB with experience rushing the passer and in pass coverage. Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports projects Bryant potentially an off-ball LB. Adding depth at LB has been critical since Mario Cristobal was hired last December.
Bryant will be the fifth LB committed to Miami since December. Miami signed Wesley Bissainthe in the 2022 class and added former UCLA LB Caleb Johnson as a transfer during the offseason. Miami needs more athleticism and size at LB. The previous staff recruited faster but smaller LBs.
