4-star S Jayden Bonsu postpones Wednesday commitment
Four-star safety Jayden Bonsu tweeted late on Tuesday night he will not make his commitment announcement on Wednesday as originally scheduled. Miami is trending for a commitment from Bonsu from 247 Sports, On3 and Rivals, the three major recruiting websites. Bonsu would be the first Miami 2023 safety commit.
Bonsu is the 264th ranked player, 23rd safety and fourth in New Jersey in the Class of 2023 per the 247 Sports composite rankings. On3 ranks Bonsu 20th among safeties and Rivals has the New Jersey prospect 21st at the position. Miami would move from 10th to seventh with a commitment from Bonsu via 247 Sports.
Jayden Bonsu would be the ninth blue-chip prospect to commit to Miami for 2023 and the 15th commitment overall. Miami holds all five 247 Sports crystal balls for Bonsu. On3 projects Miami with a 94.2 percent chance for a commitment from Bonsu. Ohio State is second at 2.2 percent.
The Rivals’ future cast projects Bonsu to Miami at 100 percent. Miami will have to wait one extra day in what could be a big week of commitments. Several players who Miami is among the contenders for will make their commitment announcements between Thursday through several prospects on Saturday.
Four-star offensive tackle Olaus Alinen who was initially trending to Miami but has had Alabama gain projections over the last few days will make his commitment announcement on Thursday. Miami is expected to receive a commitment from four-star linebacker Malik Bryant on Saturday.
Five-star safety Joenel Aguero and four-star OT Payton Kirkland will also announce their commitments on Saturday. Aguero is trending to Georgia and Kirkland to Michigan State. There is some speculation if Alinen commits to Alabama that Kirkland could commit to Miami. Miami could have a special class on the OL.
Bonsu would be only the second defensive back to commit to the Miami football program for 2023. Four-star cornerback Robert Stafford committed to Miami last month. Miami should have depth at safety through at least the 2023 season. The top four Miami safeties entering 2022 have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
