Media picks Miami football ACC Coastal Division favorite
The Miami football team was picked by the media to win the ACC Coastal Division in 2022. Miami received 98 first-place votes and 1,036 points in voting conducted last week during ACC Kickoff. Clemson is the favorite to win the ACC and the Atlantic Division with North Carolina State second in both.
Miami is a distant third behind Clemson and North Carolina State to win the ACC. The Tigers received 103 votes to win the ACC, the Wolfpack 38 and the Hurricanes eight. Miami won its only outright ACC Coast Division crown and appearance in their sole ACC Championship game in the 2017 season.
Miami will play at Clemson on November 19 in what could be a prelude to a rematch in the ACC Championship Game on December 3 in Charlotte. This is the first time Miami has been picked to win the Coastal Division since 2018 and the sixth time overall. The 2022 season will be the last of the ACC Divisional format.
Beginning in 2023, the top two teams overall in the ACC will advance to the championship game. Miami will play Boston College, Florida State and Louisville in the three-five-three format. The Hurricanes will play the Eagles, Seminoles and Cardinals every year and the other 10 teams on a two-year on-and-off basis.
The Miami football team is the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC Coastal Division in 2022. Defending ACC Championship Pittsburgh was picked second in the Coastal with 38 first-place votes and 911 points. Pittsburgh plays at Miami on November 26 in what could be the defacto ACC Coastal Division championship game.
Miami won 38-34 at Pittsburgh in 2021. The return of Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was likely the edge for Miami over Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh lost 2021 ACC Player of the Year Kenny Pickett. Pickett was the only QB selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Miami has four straight wins versus Pittsburgh.
