Three-star OT Tommy Kinsler commits to Miami football
Three-star offensive tackle Tommy Kinsler became the 16th 2023 prospect committed to the Miami football program on Thursday. Kinsler is the fourth offensive lineman committed to the 2023 Miami recruiting class. The commitment from Kinsler comes after four-star linebacker Malik Bryant committed to Miami on Wednesday.
Miami has the eighth-ranked recruiting class nationally for 2023. After moving up from 11th following the commitment from Bryant, Miami remained eighth with the Kinsler commitment. Kinsler was previously committed to Florida. Kinsler played left and right tackle for Ocala Trinity as a junior per his 247 Sports scouting report.
Kinsler plays in a power spread offense for Trinity. As a sophomore in 2020, Kinsler primarily played guard with three future power five OL. Kinsler is the 919th ranked prospect, 66th interior OL and 136th player in Florida in the Class of 2023 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Kinsler is the 15th-ranked player of the 16 Miami commits and the third-rated OL. Miami also has commitments from five-star tackle Francis Mauigoa and three-star OL Frankie Tinilau and Antonio Tripp. Kinsler is ranked ahead of Tinilau. Miami is building an elite 2023 OL class. Five-star OT Samson Okunlola is trending to Miami.
Kinsler will add depth to the Miami OL. Miami will likely lose starting left tackle Zion Nelson to the 2023 NFL Draft. Projected 2022 starting right tackle D.J. Scaife is entering his last season of eligibility. Kinsler took official visits to Florida, Florida State, Miami and Rutgers with an unofficial visit to Tennessee.
At 6’6, 330 pounds, Kinsler has exceptional size. All of the Miami 2023 OL commits are at least 6’2 and 300 pounds or bigger. Expect head coach Mario Cristobal and OL coach Alex Mirabal to continue seeking graters on up front. The past Miami football staff went more for more athletic OL who would bulk up to 300 pounds.
Nelson was 6’5 240 pounds when he signed with Miami in 2019 and is now up to 316. Mauigoa and Okunlola should be ready to contribute as freshmen. Kinsler, Tinilau and Tripp are more long term prospects. As a former OL, Cristobal has quickly been able to attract players at the position to Miami.
