Miami football prospect 4-Star S Jayden Bonsu August 14 commitment
Top Miami football prospect Jayden Bonsu announced a scheduled commitment date of August 14 at 4 PM. Bonsu postponed a commitment date from earlier this month. Even with the delay, Miami is still the prohibitive favorite to receive a commitment from Bonsu. Bonsu had an official visit to Miami in June.
Michigan State and Ohio State also received official visits from Bonsu in June. Alabama and Penn State joined Miami, Michigan State and Ohio State as finalists. All five 247 Sports crystal balls logged in early to Mid July project Bonsu to commit to Miami. On3 projects Miami with a 94.2 percent chance for a Bonsu commitment.
Bonsu is ranked as the 259th prospect, 22nd safety and fourth in New Jersey in the class of 2023 in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Four-star cornerback Robert Stafford is the only defensive back committed to Miami for 2023. The Miami football program should be deep at safety through at least the 2023 season.
Sophomores Kamren Kinchens and James Williams are not eligible for the NFL Draft until 2024. Third-year safeties Brian Balom and Avantae Williams are likely to return to Miami in 2024 barring breakout 2022 seasons. Bonsu would add more depth for Miami at safety in 2023. 6-foot-1, 205 pounds Bonsu has excellent size for a safety.

According to MaxPreps, Bonsu had 62 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, eight pass breakups and two interceptions for Jersey City, New Jersey St. Peter’s Prep. That’s the high school of the more famous Peacocks who made a run to the NCAA Tournament East Regional Championship Game.
In his On3 scouting report, Bonsu was praised for his versatility to play in the box, cover the slot and play deep safety. Bonsu has excelled as an excellent tackler and has good anticipation in coverage with the ability to undercut the receiver’s routes. On3 states Bonsu has the potential to grow into a linebacker.
