ESPN FPI projects Miami football 10th best chance to win division nationally

The Miami football team has a 45.1 percent chance to win the ACC Coastal Division in 2022 per the ESPN Football Power Index. That is the 10th best chance of any team in FBS to win their division ahead of the 2022 season. Miami has the seventh best chance among Power Five teams to win its division in 2022.

Georgia at 89.6 percent in the SEC East and Alabama at 86.7 in the West have the best chances to win their divisions as projected by the ESPN FPI. Clemson in the last year of the ACC Atlantic Division has a 75.0 percent chance to win the division. The Miami football team plays at Clemson on November 17.

The Hurricanes and Tigers could rematch in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte on December 3. The other programs in the top 10 with the best projections to win their divisions in order per the FPI are Ohio State, Boise State, Utah, Oregon, Toledo and Fresno State. Mario Cristobal has foundations set in two programs.

Cristobal led Oregon to two Pac 12 Championships and three appearances in the title game in four seasons. Miami has one ACC Championship Game appearance since joining the conference in 2004. Oregon is seventh with a 54.3 percent chance to win the Pac 12 North in 2022. Utah is sixth at 59 percent to win the Pac 12 South.

The FPI projects Clemson with a 59 percent chance to win the ACC. Miami is a distant second at 16.6 percent. Clemson is also given a 57.4 percent chance to make the College Football Playoff, a 24.8 percent chance for the National Championship Game and a 10 percent chance to win the title.

Miami has an 8.9 percent chance to make the College Football Playoff, 2.1 percent for the National Championship Game and 0.5 percent to win the title. The Hurricanes are ninth overall in the FPI. Clemson ranks fourth in the FPI behind Alabama, Ohio State and defending National Champion Georgia.
