In a Tuesday column, Clint Cosgrove the Rivals.com national recruiting analyst stated that “Miami (is) sizzling this summer” in relation to the commitments the Hurricanes received in the Class of 2023. The Miami football program currently has the 11th ranked 2023 recruiting class which is second instate to Florida which is eighth.

Cosgrove examined the summer Florida and Miami had recruiting. Florida and Miami significantly moved up the recruiting rankings from where they began entering June. The 2023 Miami recruiting class has slowed down. Four-star offensive lineman Connor Lew was the last Miami commit on August 5.

Eleven of the 17 Miami commits are blue-chip prospects according to the Rivals rankings. Miami has two five-star commits according to Rivals. The Hurricanes have commits at every position except defensive tackle, running back and safety. Miami is trending for DT Rueben Bain and RB Chris Johnson.

Five-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola is also trending to Miami. The Hurricanes are competing to sign their first top 10 class since finishing sixth in the 2018 Rivals recruiting rankings. Cosgrove highlighted the top 2023 Miami commits and took a look ahead at the battle with Florida.

"“Miami got off to a slow start on the recruiting trail. Since mid-June, Mario Cristobal’s program has added 13 commitments with two coming from five-star standouts Francis Mauigoa and Jaden Wayne. The Hurricanes are in on a number of the nation’s top remaining uncommitted prospects and their recruiting battles against the fellow in-state Gators could determine who wins the battle of recruiting supremacy in the Sunshine State.”"

Rivals has the highest ranking for Wayne. The other top recruiting sites, 247 Sports, ESPN and On3 rate Wayne as a four-star recruit. Florida and Miami are far ahead of Florida State in the battle for Sunshine State supremacy in the 2023 class. The Seminoles have the 30th ranked recruiting class by Rivals.
