National website picks Miami football 2022 trap game
In “Predicting the biggest trap game for every top-25 team.” Sam Marsdale of 247 Sports has the Miami football team on watch for their October 29 game at Virginia. Virginia won 30-28 at Hard Rock Stadium in 2021 when a Miami game-winning field goal attempt hit the upright on the last play of the game.
Miami defeated Virginia in 2019 and 2020. This season will be the first for the Miami football team in Charlotteville since losing at Virginia in 2018. Miami had a three-game winning streak versus Virginia prior to the loss in Charlottesville in 2018. The Hurricanes lead the all-time against the Cavaliers 11 to eight.
Virginia finished 6-6 in 2021 with a 4-4 record in the ACC. Bronco Mendenhall retired following the 2021 season after leading Virginia to a 36-38 record in six seasons. Former Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Scott is entering his first season with Virginia. Virginia was the first start versus a Power Five opponent for Tyler Van Dyke.
Van Dyke completed 15 passes in 29 attempts for 203 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while adding a 24-yard TD run in an attempt to rally Miami in the fourth quarter. Virginia stretched their lead to 30-21 just over two minutes into the fourth quarter last season. Miami relied heavily on the run with 40 rushing attempts.

Armstrong was 25-44 for 268 yards, one TD and one interception in the win over Miami in 2021. The ACC is loaded at QB in 2021 led by Armstrong, Sam Hartman of Wake Forest, Devin Leary of North Carolina State and Van Dyke. The Miami football team plays at Duke the week before Virginia and hosts Florida State the week after.
The Hurricanes should be up for the Cavaliers following the narrow loss last season. Playing Florida State the week following the trip to Charlottesville could have Miami looking ahead to playing the Seminoles. Cristobal and Elliott are two of the four new head coaches in the ACC Coastal Division in 2022.

Duke hired former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko and Brent Pry held the same position at Penn State before being hired by Virginia Tech. Miami plays at Virginia Tech on October 15 and hosts Duke on October 22. Miami was picked to win the ACC Coastal this season by conference media.
