In his weekly Tuesday column, Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney named Miami as one of “Five programs poised for a big autumn.” The Miami football program currently has the 11th ranked 2023 recruiting class in the Rivals.Com rankings. Miami has not received a commitment for 2023 since early August.

Three-star interior offensive lineman Connor Lew was the last 2023 commit to the Miami football program on August 5. Getting off to a good start this season should provide a boost to the Hurricanes’ 2023 recruiting class. Defensive tackle, running back and safety are the three positions Miami doesn’t have a 2023 commit.

The Miami football program is building an elite 2023 class on the offensive line with four commits. Wide receiver is another position Miami will likely target. Four-star WRs Nathaniel Joseph and Robby Washington are currently committed to Miami, but the Hurricanes are likely to want one more commit at the position for 2023.

Miami will try to flip commits to other programs and recruit highly ranked prospects who have not committed yet. Gorney profiled a list of the highest ranked commits to Miami and other prospects the Hurricanes are recruiting. Miami has a legitimate chance to sign a top 10 class for the first time since 2018.

"“The Hurricanes currently have the No. 11 class nationally with two five-stars committed in OL  Francis Mauigoa and DL Jayden Wayne and coach Mario Cristobal is far from done. Five-star OL  Samson Okunlola is very serious about playing at Miami and teaming with Mauigoa. The Hurricanes are making up ground with (five-star edge rusher Samuel) M’Pemba as well. Five-star cornerback Cormani McClain has Miami seriously in the running with Alabama and Florida so that’s another possibility. That’s not all. Miami got elite four-star receiver Jurrion Dickey to visit this summer and he loved the trip.He also teamed with QB commit Jaden Rashada on the Miami Immortals (seven-on-seven) team this summer at the OT7 event in Las Vegas so there’s a connection that could be continued. Four-star sack machine  Rueben Bain has Miami high on the list and he has family connections to the program.Gardena (Calif.) Serra speedster Rodrick Pleasant was just offered by the Hurricanes. At running back, three-star local recruit Christopher Johnson has Miami in his top two and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Canes try to flip four-star Ohio State RB commit Mark Fletcher among others.”"

Mauigoa has been a leader in recruiting other players in the Class of 2023. When he committed to Miami on July 4 Mauigoa went on Twitter and tagged recruits he wants to join him in the 2023 Miami recruiting class. Okunlola is trending to Miami on multiple recruiting sites. Bookends of Mauigoa and Okunlola would anchor the OL.

Dickey is currently committed to Oregon. Bain is trending to Miami as a Hurricanes’ legacy. Rashada was critical to anchoring the 2023 Miami class and not having to be concerned with signing a quarterback. Johnson has exceptional speed and would be a good addition to the Miami RB corps.

Pleasant is a CB. Four-star prospect Robert Stafford is the only projected CB currently committed to Miami for 2023. Flipping Fletcher will be difficult. Ohio State has done well recruiting players in South Florida. Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Texas A&M are the other programs that Gorney projects to have big Autumns recruiting.
