Top Miami football prospect Rueben Bain production exceeds ranking
Four-star Miami Central star Rueben Bain is the 95th ranked player nationally, the 10th defensive lineman and 21st in Florida in the Class of 2023. Bain, a Miami football legacy, has produced beyond his ranking in the last year. On Friday night Bain had three sacks in the Rockets’ upset victory over IMG Academy.
Bain was frequently matched up with five-star Miami offensive tackle commit Francis Mauigoa on Friday night in Bradenton. Tolbert Bain, a former Miami defensive back, is the uncle of Rueben. Rueben’s father Reggie is a Miami graduate assistant coach. Bain had 34 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks as a freshman in 2019.
In his own words, Bain had a breakout season in 2021 as a junior with 60 tackles, 48.5 tackles for loss and 29.5 sacks. Bain plays on the edge for Miami Central but is projected as a defensive tackle at the collegiate level. The Miami football program only has one defensive lineman committed to its 2023 recruiting class.
Miami commit Jayden Wayne is the 47th-ranked player, seventh-ranked edge rusher and ninth in Florida transferred from Tacoma, Washington to IMG for his senior season. Wayne played receiver and defense for Lincoln High School in Tacoma recording 44 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and nine sacks in 2021.
Bain led a Miami Central defense in 2021 that allowed 15.4 points per game and included 2022 Hurricanes signee Wesley Bissainthe at linebacker according to Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports. At 6’2, 250 pounds Bain will have to add bulk to move inside in college, Ivins projects that Bain could eventually get to 280 pounds.
Bain has proven to be an elite and relentless pass rusher. Bain took official visits to Alabama and Auburn in June. Miami has received multiple unofficial visits from Bain. Bain also took an unofficial visit to Florida in June among other schools he has visited since the summer of 2021. Miami is the prohibitive favorite for Bain per On3.
