The marquee matchup in the Miami Central at IMG Academy game this weekend was between five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa and four-star defensive lineman Rueben Bain. Mauigoa is the top 2023 Miami football commit and Bain is currently trending to the Hurricanes’ recruiting class.

Rivals.Com national recruiting analyst Ryan Wright summarized the performances from Bain and Mauigoa in “Five takeaways from Miami Central vs. IMG Academy.” The IMG Academy versus Miami Central game will likely be one of the discussed games of the 2022 high school football season.

Mauigoa is the 18th-ranked player, third OT and seventh in Florida in the Class of 2023 per the Rivals.Com rankings. Bain is ranked 180th overall by Rivals, the 17th strongside defensive end and 31st in Florida for 2023. The ranking of Bain at SDE is different than the consensus projections of him being an interior OL in college.

Bain led Miami Central to a 20-14 upset victory at IMG. When Mauigoa committed to the Miami football program on July 4 he immediately began recruiting for Miami via social media. Wright reported that happened during the game. Bain and Mauigoa matched up a few times during the game between nationally ranked top 25 teams.

"FRANCIS MAUIGOA vs. RUBEN BAIN“In back-to-back games, Francis Mauigoa has taken on two of the Sunshine State’s best in Venice High School’s Damon Wilson and Central’s Rueben Bain. Mauigoa has proven his five-star worthiness as has the four-stars taking him on. Bain got a few snaps against Mauigoa in run and passing down situations before having to move inside.Bain’s three sacks in the game came against other Rocket O-linemen. Bain was beastly late in the game getting critical stops for Central. During a post-game interview with Mauigoa, the five-star shared there was a little recruiting talk going back-and-forth between the two, “In the middle of the play, he was like, “Go Canes.” I was like you already know the deal.”"

Mauigoa is the top commit to the 2023 Miami class. Bain would be the seventh-ranked player in the 2023 Miami class based on the players currently committed. Rivals five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne is the only DL currently committed to Miami for 2023. Mauigoa leads a group of five 2023 Miami OL commits.

Three-star center Antonio Tripp is also starting on the IMG OL with Mauigoa. Miami currently has 17 commits in the 2023 class and is ranked 11th nationally by Rivals. Led by Mauigoa Miami has the potential for a special OL class. Tripp should exceed his ranking. Connor Lew also projects as a center and is rated four stars by 247 Sports.
