The Miami Hurricanes gained an experienced running back with the addition of Lucious Stanley from UAB on Monday. Stanley will walk on and be eligible immediately. In five seasons with UAB, Stanley ran for 1,081, yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry with 12 touchdowns and 22 receptions for 195 yards and two TDs.

At 6’0, 215 pounds, Stanley provides depth and size to the Miami Hurricanes roster that had been depleted at RB. Miami lost star freshman Tre’Vonte Citizen for the season with a torn ACL during the first scrimmage earlier this month and third-year sophomore Don Chaney Jr. is out for a few weeks with a reported hip injury.

Stanley will provide Miami with a RB who gains positive yardage. Stanley averaged between 4.6 and 5.9 yards per carry a season during his five seasons with UAB. The career-best season for Stanley at UAB was when he had 90 carries for 414 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry and scoring seven TDs.

The three top performances of Stanley’s career came during the 2019 season. Stanley did not play as often the last two seasons. Stanley had 58 carries for 331 rushing yards and three TDs in 2020 and 2021 combined. Miami was down to Thad Franklin, Jaylan Knighton and Henry Parrish at RB before signing Stanley.

Cristobal cannot comment on the addition of Stanley until the athletic department makes his signing official. Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald quoted Cristobal as saying “When I’m cleared to, I certainly would be glad to speak about anybody…As soon I get clarity on who I can speak about I’ll be glad to get that information to you.’’

The addition of Stanley also provides another experienced player to the Miami roster. In 28 of the 42 games that Stanley received carries for UAB, he averaged at least four yards per carry. If he can get up to speed quickly on the Miami offense, Stanley will have an opportunity for carries in the first two weeks of the season.
