Miami Hurricanes’ quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has been considered a Heisman Trophy longshot throughout the 2022 off-season. Van Dyke was named by Brad Crawford of 247 Sports as one of the “Heisman longshots worth a closer look…” Our partner site Wynn Bet lists Van Dyke at +3500 to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Van Dyke returns without his top two receivers from 2022, Charleston Rambo and Mike Harley Jr. Rambo set Miami records for receptions and receiving yards in a single season in 2021. Harley set the career and single-game reception records during the 2022 season. Key’Shawn Smith is the lone returning starting wide receiver.

The breakout season Van Dyke had in 2021 has set the expectations high for the 2022 season. Miami’s week three game at Texas A&M will be a marquee matchup with national relevance. Van Dyke challenged the Miami single-season passing TD record last season but ultimately fell four short without playing in a bowl game.

With an entire season starting in 2022, Van Dyke will have a chance to challenge several Miami single-season passing records this fall. The new Miami offense under Josh Gattis will be more balanced in 2022. Tyler Van Dyke will have a lot of competition at QB. All but two of the other longshots listed by Crawford were QBs.

"TYLER VAN DYKE, QB, MIAMI (40/1)“There’s considerable pressure on Tyler Van Dyke to be “it” this fall for the Hurricanes and he’s not shying away from sizable expectations. Miami first-year coach Mario Cristobal has labeled his quarterback one of the nation’s best overall players, regardless of position.Van Dyke filled in for the injured D’Eriq King and found immediate success for Miami last season with 25 touchdown passes and nearly 3,000 yards through the air. And given the Hurricanes’ placement inside the preseason top 20, Van Dyke is going to already have the national exposure necessary in front of media members to garner top billing with big numbers.”"

Van Dyke would shatter Miami’s single-season passing yardage and TD records in a single season with the same pace as 2021. It is possible for Van Dyke to become the first Miami QB to throw for 30 TDs and 4,000 yards in a season. Van Dyke entered 2021 as a little-known backup. He enters 2022 as one of the best-known QBs in college football.

By the time the 2022 Miami football season concludes, Van Dyke could be considered one of the best QBs in program history. Consensus 2023 NFL Mock Drafts project Van Dyke as a first-round pick. Van Dyke was picked third behind North Carolina State QB Devin Leary and Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman as ACC Player of the Year.
