Miami football falls behind FSU in ACC power rankings
The Miami football team dropped from second to fifth in the 247 Sports ACC power rankings following a 17-9 loss at Texas A&M on Saturday night. Miami was exceptional defensively, but three field goals in four red zone trips offensively was ultimately the difference in the game at Kyle Field.
Miami outgained Texas A&M 392 to 264 and had a 27 to 16 advantage in first downs. The game was there for Miami to win if it had converted in the red zone. How well Miami plays in the red zone offensively should be monitored going forward. Mario Cristobal has frequently been criticized for being too conservative.
After hosting Middle Tennessee State on Saturday Miami has a bye week. Miami begins ACC play on October 8 versus North Carolina. The Tar Heels have an Elite offense. Miami is going to have to improve offensively to win games against high-powered offenses. Miami is the second highest-rated team in the ACC Coastal.
Pittsburgh is fourth in the ACC power rankings. The top three teams in the 247 Sports ACC Power Rankings are Clemson, North Carolina State and Florida State. The Atlantic Division has dominated the early part of the season. Pittsburgh lost week two to Tennessee. Florida State defeated LSU in week one.

The sole win for Clemson over a Power Five opponent this season was a week one win versus Georgia Tech. North Carolina State defeated Texas Tech on Saturday. Clemson plays at Notre Dame on November 5 in its lone non-conference game versus a Power Five opponent. Miami can still move up the ACC Power Rankings.

Miami is protected with better than a 50 percent chance to win each of its remaining games this season with the exception of at Clemson on November 19. If Miami can reach its preseason expectations, the Hurricanes will move up in the ACC Power Rankings. Miami was picked to win the Coastal in the preseason.
