Could Miami football be interested in Alabama DT transfer Braylen Ingraham?
Originally reported by Matt Zenitz of On3 former Alabama and St. Thomas Aquinas defensive tackle Braylen Ingraham has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Ingraham will be eligible immediately. Former Miami football defensive tackle Jon Ford was a teammate of Ingraham at Dillard.
Ingraham had five tackles in five games in 2019 and ’20. Ingraham did not receive playing time in 2021 or 2022. As a four-star prospect in the Class of 2019, Ingraham was the 164th ranked player, 10th strongside defensive and 22nd Florida per the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Miami and Oregon (under Mario Cristobal) were the finalists with Alabama for Ingraham out of high school. Ingraham originally took official visits to Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Oregon. Twenty-six FBS programs offered Ingraham scholarships. Alabama listed Ingraham as a redshirt sophomore in 2021.
The Miami football team will have to add depth on the DL for 2022 for the second straight off-season. Transfer defensive linemen Mitchell Agude, Jacob Lichtenstein and Antonio Moultrie are all 2022 seniors. Expect Cristobal and to look to the transfer portal to improve the 2023 roster as he did in 2022.
Miami also added transfer DL Darrell Jackson and Akheem Mesidor for the 2022 season. The five DL transfers were the most for any position on the Miami roster. Ingraham would have a chance to play immediately if he chooses to return home and play for Miami. Edge rusher Jayden Wayne is the only 2023 Miami DL commit.
The counting report on Ingraham praised his athleticism and initial quickness with the ability to play inside and as an edge rusher. Ingraham was initially projected as a mid-round NFL Draft pick. Prior to entering the transfer portal, Ingraham was not with Alabama this season. Fining playing time on the Alabama DL is difficult.
Ingraham was the 18th-ranked player in the 2019 Alabama class and the eighth DL. Working in the favor of Ingraham could be multiple years of eligibility remaining. Jackson and Mesidor could both return to Miami in 2023 after transferring in 2022. Miami needs to add more DL either in the 2023 class or through the transfer portal.
