The next two opponents for the Miami football team will play this Saturday with Virginia Tech at North Carolina. Virginia Tech is 2-2 under first-year head coach Brent Pry. North Carolina is 3-1 following a 45-32 loss to Notre Dame last week. Virginia Tech is trying to recover from a 33-10 blowout loss to West Virginia.

North Carolina leads the ACC in scoring and is second in total offense. The Tar Heels average 46.5 points per game and 502.3 total yards per game. It will be strength versus strength and weakness against weakness with the Hokies and Tar Heels. Virginia Tech is first in the ACC in total defense and second in scoring defense.

Miami has lost the last three games versus North Carolina. Miami has defeated Virginia Tech two games in a row and four of the last five. The Miami game at Virginia Tech on October 15 will end the Hurricanes’ second longest continual rivalry. This season is the 31st straight year the Hokies and Hurricanes will play.

Only Florida State who Miami has played every year since 1969 is a longer continual opponent for the Hurricanes. This is the last season the ACC will have divisions. Miami will no longer play North Carolina, Virginia Tech and the other ACC Coastal division teams after the 2022 season. Miami has two new annual rivals.

The Miami football team will continue to play Florida State annually. Boston College and Louisville will be the new annual rivals for Miami in the new five-three-five ACC scheduling model. ACC teams will play three teams annually and five teams on a two-year on, two-year off basis. Miami will play at North Carolina in 2023.

North Carolina has opened as a 9.5-point favorite with an over/under of 54.5 according to the odds posted by Fan Duel. North Carolina is 1-3 versus the spread in 2022. Three of the four North Carolina games have gone over the total and the fourth was one point under. Virginia Tech is also 1-3 versus the spread.

All four Virginia Tech games have trended under. The highest-scoring Virginia Tech game this season was the loss last week to West Virginia. When Miami plays North Carolina the game should have a total of around 50 points. The Hurricanes and Hokies being two weeks away makes it difficult to determine betting odds.
