Five-star cornerback Desmond Ricks tweeted on Friday that he will visit the Miami football program for the North Carolina game on October 8. Ricks is the second-ranked player, top CB and number one in Florida out of IMG Academy in the Class of 2024. Ricks is originally from Chesapeake, Virginia.

Four of the seven scholarship CBs currently on the Miami football roster are juniors or seniors. Four-star athlete Robert Stafford is the only projected CB committed to Miami for 2023. Brandon Harris in 2008 and Tracy Howard in 2012 are the only five-star CBs to ever sign with Miami. D.J. Ivey is the lone senior this year.

Ricks has already visited Alabama, Florida, Florida State and LSU. Miami previously received a visit from Ricks on June 6. Ricks released a top 10 of Alabama, Florida, Jackson State, Miami, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC over the summer.

Alabama is the leader for Ricks with a 54.1 percent chance for a commitment according to the On3.Com prediction machine. Ricks has one crystal ball from 247 Sports that project him to commit to Florida State. Chad Simmons of On3 spoke to Ricks about his recruitment with Miami.

"“Being on campus and feeling that family vibe made a big impact on my interest in Miami…The love down there really stood out. The whole staff showed love. When I was taking photos, all of the coaches were there with me…It really felt like family and Miami really went up my list after that visit.”"

Four-star Fort Lauderdale safety Antonie Jackson and kicker Abram Murray are the only commitments Miami has for 2024. Expect the secondary to be a big priority for Miami in the class of 2024. Ricks would be a big commitment for head coach Mario Cristobal and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae.

Addae is leading the recruitment for Ricks. At 6’1, 175 pounds, Ricks provides ideal length at CB. Al Blades Jr., Isaiah Dunson and Ivey are the only CBs currently listed on the Miami roster who are 6’1. Blades moved to safety during the 2022 offseason. Dunson is the only one of the three who will have eligibility remaining in 2024.
