The Miami football program has offered a scholarship to four-star wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons who is a heavy Notre Dame lean according to multiple recruiting websites. Lyons who is from Hayward, California Tennyson tweeted on Saturday night that he received an offer from Miami. Miami currently has two 2023 WRs commits.
Lyons is the 283rd ranked player, 35th WR and 19th in California in the Class of 2023. Heyward which is South of Oakland is about 40 miles from Pittsburg where 2023 Miami quarterback commit Jaden Rashada is from. Miami currently has 2023 four-star commits Nathaniel Joseph and Robby Washington projected as WRs.
At 6’2.5, 165 pounds, Lyons has excellent length but needs to fill out in college. Joseph at 5’8 and Washington who is 5’10 are smaller receivers. Joseph is projected to be a slot receiver. The 2023 Miami recruiting class currently ranks 10th nationally according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Notre Dame currently has a 96.7 percent chance for a commitment from Lyons according to On3 and the Fighting Irish hold all four crystal balls from 247 Sports. Lyons has taken official visits to Notre Dame and Washington. Miami could receive one of the three remaining official visits Lyons has.
The scouting report from Brandon Huffman of 247 Sports describes Lyons with the potential to be a game breaker. Gabe Brooks of 247 Sports reported that Lyons runs track and has posted a 100-meter time of 11.03 and 22.37 in the 200 meters. Lyons had 55 receptions for 907 yards and 1,209 all-purpose yards as a junior.
Joseph and Washington are both higher ranked than Lyons. Lyons would currently be the ninth highest-rated player in the 2023 Miami football recruiting class. Expect Miami to attempt to add one or two more WRs in the 2023 class. Miami has received inconsistent play from most of its WRs in 2022.
In addition to Notre Dame and Washington, Lyons took unofficial visits to in-state schools Fresno State and San Jose State. The Bulldogs and Spartans are not likely to be a factor in his recruitment going forward. At this point, the schools that Lyons are recruiting Lyons the strongest are all far from the Bay Area.
