Miami football remains front runner after Reuben Bain chooses top 6
The Miami football program remains the front-runner after 2023 four-star defensive lineman Rueben Cain named the top six programs he is considering. Alabama, Auburn, Louisville, Oklahoma, and Florida State are also in the running to receive a commitment from the 10th-best 2023 DL per the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Miami has been the leader throughout the recruitment of Bain, but the most recent crystal ball from 247 Sports projects him to commit to Auburn. Six crystal balls between December 2021 and June project Bain to commit to Miami. On3 projects Miami with a 64.3 percent chance to receive a commitment from Bain.
Miami has a few advantages to receiving a commitment from Bain. Bain’s brother Reggie is a graduate assistant on the Hurricanes’ staff and his uncle Tolbert played for Miami in the 1980s. Four-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne is the only DL committed to the 2023 Miami recruiting class.
Bain would be a huge addition for Miami. Head coach Mario Cristobal has continued to stress the importance of emphasizing the play on the line of scrimmage. Miami has five offensive linemen committed for 2023. Bain spoke to On3 about the status of his recruitment with the Miami football program.
"“My hometown team…A terrific new staff that just came in. They’re trying to bring back the culture of Miami, that swag they used to have. Coach Cristobal knows what he’s doing, he brought the right guys to help as well. Miami shows the most love and I love that. There’s nothing like stay home and being a hometown hero”"
Bain is one of the most productive DL in the Class of 2023. Through four games in 2022, Bain has 19 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Bain has 112 career tackles, 67 TFLs, 38 sacks, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble and helped lead Miami Central to three straight state championships.
Auburn appears to be the primary challenger for Miami to receive a commitment from Bain. The On3 prediction machine gives the Tigers a 30.1 percent chance for a commitment from Bain. Bain told On3 “Auburn is the standard…of college football…I feel at home every time I’m there on a visit.”
