Tyler Van Dyke is poised for a big game versus a Duke pass defense that is 99th nationally allowing 260.6 yards per game. The Duke pass defense also is 95th with a 140.30 passer rating against, 79th allowing 7.4 yards per attempt and 83rd with opponents completing 62.2 percent of their pass attempts.

After a poor start during the first four games of the season, Tyler Van Dyke has thrown for 847 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while completing 68.9 percent of his passes in the last two weeks. Duke is also 76th allowing opponents to convert 38.55 percent of their third down attempts.

Miami needs to be able to convert in the red zone. Duke is 88th nationally allowing opponents to score TDs on 57.58 percent of their red zone trips. Miami is 82nd converting 59.38 percent of their red zone trips into touchdowns. The Hurricanes have had at least one red zone trip in each game this season that ended without a TD.

Van Dyke has been at his most efficient on third down this season. The 140.67 passer rating Van Dyke has on third down is his highest. Van Dyke has completed 66.7 of his third-down pass attempts for 370 yards, no TDs and no interceptions. Duke allows opposing QBs a 131.64 third-down passer rating with four TDs and no interceptions.

The re-emergence by Van Dyke against North Carolina and Virginia Tech has continued the dominance by the 2021 ACC rookie of the year and offensive rookie of the year against the conference. In ACC play only Van Dyke leads the conference averaging 423.5 passing yards per game and is fourth with a 152.08 passer rating.

Duke has been worse in pass defense versus power five teams. The Blue Devils allow 354.7 passing yards per game versus 2022 Power five power opponents. Van Dyke has averaged 291 yards versus 2022 Power Five opponents. Duke is allowing 271.3 passing yards per game in ACC play.

Duke is an opportunity for the Miami offense to continue ascending in 2022. Miami and Van Dyke have had their two most prolific weeks in passing yardage this season in each of the past two weeks. With the Duke pass defense trending having struggled to defend Power Five teams throwing, expect a big game from Van Dyke.
