Miami football without Tyler Van Dyke and Henry Parrish versus Georgia Tech
According to several reports, the Miami football team will be without leading passer Tyler Van Dyke and top rusher Henry Parrish when the Hurricanes play Georgia Tech on Saturday in Atlanta. Van Dyke has missed most of the last two games with a shoulder injury. This is the second game this season Parrish will be out.
True freshman Jacurri Brown will start in place of Van Dyke with redshirt freshman Jake Garcia also receiving playing time. Brown was 5-9 for 37 yards and an interception versus FSU. Third-year sophomore Jaylan Knighton who was benched two weeks ago against Virginia is the likely starter for the Miami football team at running back.
Expect a more running back by committee approach for Miami. Thad Franklin who was the primary backup to Parrish early in the season did not play against Duke or Virginia. Franklin had three carries for eight yards versus Florida State. Lucius Stanley has 10 carries for 46 yards in the last four games.
The Miami passing game has been anemic the last two weeks. Miami had 187 yards passing combined against Virginia and Florida State and averaged less than four yards per attempt in each game. Massachusetts ranks last nationally averaging 4.8 yards per pass attempt for the entire season.

Garcia averages 7.3 yards per pass attempt this season. Brown did not complete a pass until last week and averages 3.7 yards per attempt. Miami needs the pass offense to improve significantly against Georgia Tech or the Yellow Jackets will be able to stack the box and force Brown or Garcia to throw.
Knighton had the best game of his career in 2021 versus Georgia Tech with 32 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown. That is the only 100-yard game of Knighton’s career. Knighton has a season-high 14 carries for 77 yards and one reception for six yards against Texas A&M in September.

Knighton had a 45-yard run last week against Florida State which was the longest for Miami this season. Franklin and Stanley have had limited success in short yardage. Miami is likely to give all Franklin, Knighton and Stanley carries and see if one of the three gets hot. Georgia Tech is 106th allowing 180.67 rushing yards per game.
