Miami football wins over Georgia Tech with 3 Kam Kinchen interceptions
Kamren Kinchens tied a Miami football record with three interceptions, the last of which went 99 yards for a TD to lead Miami in a 35-14 win over Georgia Tech. Miami made big plays when they had to defensively. Tyrique Stevenson had an interception in the third quarter. Miami had a plus-four turnover margin in the victory.
That was the first time Miami had a plus-four turnover margin since a December 5, 2020 48-0 win at Duke. Three of the Miami interceptions and two by Kinchens came in the fourth quarter. To top off his day, Kinchens recovered a Georgia Tech onside kick after their second TD with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
The Miami football team ran for 2XX yards in a 35-14 win over Georgia Tech. Miami scored TDs on two of its first three drives and added another two in the fourth quarter. Jaylan Knighton had 16 carries for 118 yards and a TD. That was the second most of Knighton’s career after running for 162 yards in 2021 versus Georgia Tech.
The only points for Georgia Tech on Saturday came on a 15-play, 99-yard drive in 4:19 at the end of the first half to cut the Miami lead to 14-7. Neither team scored in the third quarter. Miami scored on its first two drives of the third quarter before the Kinchens pick six to put the game away.
True freshman Jacurri Brown was efficient in his first collegiate start Brown was 14-19 for 136 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions with 19 carries for 87 yards. Will Mallory reached the scoreboard first, Brown connected with classmate Jaleel Skinner for the second TD and Colbie Young on the third in the fourth quarter.
Jaylan Knighton added a three-yard run in the fourth quarter preceding the Kinchens 99-yard interception return TD. The win puts Miami a game away from bowl eligibility. Miami plays at Clemson next week before hosting Pittsburgh in the regular season finale. Miami ended a nine-quarter streak with no TDs on Saturday.
No time has been set for the Clemson game yet. The ACC put the game on a six-day hold earlier this week. Expect the announcement for the kickoff time next Saturday to be released on Sunday. Clemson defeated Louisville 31-16 on Saturday to improve to 9-1. The Tigers are still alive for a College Football Playoff berth.
