Texas A&M Commerce wide receiver Andrew Armstrong who previously announced his entry into the transfer portal tweeted on Tuesday that after a conversation with general manager Alonzo Highsmith he received an offer from the Miami football program. Armstrong has 62 receptions for 1020 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2022.

Armstrong is listed as WR 6’6 189 lbs on the Texas A&M Commerce official roster. At 6’5, 215 pounds Colbie Young is currently the tallest WR on the Miami roster. Armstrong leads Texas A&M Commerce in receptions, receiving yards and TDs plus a long of 96 yards. Armstrong has received multiple other FBS offers.

The majority of the offers for Armstrong have been from Power Five programs. Armstrong has season highs of 153 receiving yards at Southeastern Louisiana on October 8, nine receptions at McNeese State on October 15 and three receiving touchdowns twice during the 2022 season.

Armstong had over 100 yards six times this season. Nicholls State and Tennessee State combined to hold Armstrong to nine receptions for 75 yards with a long of 13 over the final two games of 2022. Texas A&M Commerce signed Armstrong in the class of 2019 from Bishop Dunne HS in Dallas, Texas.

Armstrong redshirted in 2019 and did not record any stats unit contributing 15 receptions for 297 yards and three TDs until his breakout 2022 season. Armstrong was not ranked when he signed out of high school. Texas A&M Commerce was Division II until moving up to FBS this season.

None of the Miami WRs are seniors. The Miami football program is expected to lose Key’Shawn Smith and potentially Romello Brinson to the transfer portal at the end of the season. Smith has not played in the last three games or traveled for the past two weeks. There has been a lot of speculation around Brinson this week.

Miami has commits for 2023 from four-star WRs Nathaniel Joseph and Robby Washington. Expect the Hurricanes to try and add another WR or two in the class of 2023 plus one or two transfers. Miami needs a WR through their own development or via transfer to become a go to receiver like Charleston Rambo in 2021.
