Tony Pauline of The Pro Football Network reported on Wednesday “The Miami Hurricanes reportedly have a $5 million NIL arsenal which they will use to attract top players who enter the transfer portal.” Mario Cristobal and the Miami football program are expected to deeply enter the transfer portal during the 2023 off-season.

The Miami football program has already lost defensive backs, Gilbert Frierson and Jalen Harrell, defensive linemen Allan Haye and Elijah Roberts and running back Thad Franklin to the transfer portal. Those are all positions that the Miami football program will seek to add depth to during the 2023 off-season.

Miami is expected to lose many more players to the transfer portal. Dozens of Miami football players received little to no playing time during the 2022 season. Other players like Franklin saw their playing time significantly reduced during the season. Cristobal wants to get players who fit his culture and systems.

Miami has been one of the most polarizing programs since name, image and likeness went into effect on July 1, 2021. Led by John Ruiz, Miami has reportedly signed over 100 athletes to contracts worth about $10 million. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding new Miami athletes in relation to NIL.

Rumors have emerged about how much Miami has paid incoming freshmen and transfers as well as how much they have promised potential recruits in NIL money to come to Coral Gables. The opportunities to make money off NIL for college athletes in Miami are far more plentiful than in smaller more traditional college towns.

Miami has used the transfer portal throughout its athletic programs. The Miami football team and men’s and women’s basketball teams have all benefitted from adding transfers to improve their rosters. Expect NIL to continue to develop and evolve as it continues to increase in importance in securing talent in the future.
