Miami football trending for UNC DT commit Joshua Horton
After flipping edge rusher Collins Acheampong from Michigan on Tuesday night, the Miami football program is trending for North Carolina defensive tackle commit Joshua Horton. Three 247 Sports crystal balls have been logged for Horton since Monday and On3 projects a 71 percent chance for Horton to flip from UNC to Miami.
The three 247 sports experts who logged crystal balls for Horton to the Miami football program are contributor Philip Dukes, Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins and director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong. Horton has been committed to UNC since August 19. Miami does not have any 2023 DT commits.
Acheampong and four-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne are the only defensive linemen committed to Miami for 2023. Horton is the 888th ranked player, 100th DL and 89th player in Georgia in the class of 2023 in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Horton is the 15th 2023 UNC commit in the class of 2023.
The only current Miami commit rated lower than Horton is three-star offensive tackle Frankie Tinilau. Miami needs to add depth to a DL that loses senior DL Mitchell Agude, Jacob Lichtenstein and Antonio Moultrie plus tackle Allan Haye and versatile DL Elijah Roberts to the transfer portal.
Horton would provide the Miami football program with excellent size in the middle of its DL at 6’4, 285 pounds. Cristobal and his staff want linemen on offense and defense that will move the line of scrimmage. Horton was incredibly productive for a DT this season with 105 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks.
Miami is expected to return Jared-Harrison-Hunte, Darrell Jackson and Leonard Taylor as the main DTs in 2023. Ahmad Moten and Jordan Miller add depth. The Hurricanes could look to the transfer portal to add more depth at DT in 2022. Jackson was a huge contributor as a sophomore transfer from Maryland in 2022.
Cristobal will be active in the next three weeks before Early National Signing Day. College football programs are eligible to begin contacting potential transfers on Monday when the portal officially opens. Miami will likely add multiple freshman DL signees in the class of 2023 and through the transfer portal.
