The Miami football program added to an already strong 2023 linebacking class with a commitment of three-star prospect Marcellius Pulliam on Saturday night. Miami moves past Florida into the eighth-ranked 2023 recruiting class with the commitment from Pulliam. Miami now has five LBs committed for 2023.

Pulliam joins four-star prospects Raul Aguirre and Malik Bryant and three-star commits Bobby Washington and Kaleb Spencer in the 2023 Miami class. Spencer is a hybrid player who could play safety in college. Pulliam is the 792nd ranked player, 63rd LB and 78th in Georgia for 2023 per the 247 Sports composite rankings.

In 13 games over the last two seasons playing for Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia, Pulliam had 98 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, an interception and three fumble recoveries.   Miami needed to add a strong LB class for 2023 with Caleb Johnson and Waynmon Steed seniors in 2023.

Corey Flagg and rising sophomore Wesley Bissainthe return as starting LBs for 2023. According to 247 Sports, Miami LB coach and co-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong led the Miami recruitment for Pulliam. Pulliam spoke to On3.Com about how his relationship with Aguirre influenced his commitment to Miami.

"“Popo (Aguirre) is a great dude…When I first got my Miami offer he was pumped. It’s like we’re brothers already even though we’re at two different schools…He let me know that he wants me to come down there with him and stand beside him and get ready for war. Miami gave me a family atmosphere.I wanted to be somewhere that wouldn’t let me get homesick.”"

Pulliam committed to Miami despite only taking official visits to Kentucky, Mississippi State and Louisville. Miami did host Pulliam for an unofficial visit in June. Miami will likely continue to make LB a priority for the 2023 roster. There are multiple reports that Miami is still strongly recruiting Miami Central LB Stanquan Clark.

Pulliam adds depth and upside to the 2023 Miami recruiting class. Only three-star offensive tackle Frankie Tinilau is lower rated than Pulliam among the 2023 Miami football commits. Pulliam was primarily an inside LB in a 3-4 defense as a junior in 2021 per his 247 Sports scouting report. The Early National Signing Period is December 21-23.
