Miami basketball blows out Louisville in ACC opener

The Miami basketball team earned an 80-53 victory at Louisville in their ACC opener on Sunday. Miami used multiple runs throughout the game to improve to 8-1 and drop Louisville to 0-8. Jim Larranaga used his bench liberally with 14 Hurricanes scoring led by Jordan Miller with 11. Miami took control of the game early.

The Hurricanes had a 15-2 run after Louisville took an early 5-2 lead. Miami never led by less than six the remainder of the game en route to a 42-23 lead at halftime. Norchad Omier who had 12 and Miller with 10 led Miami in the first half. Omier finished the game with 12 points and a season low four rebounds.

All of the Miami starters played less than 10 minutes in the second half. Miami played 13 players and all of them scored versus Louisville. Louisville leading scorer El Ellis finished with five points on 1-10 from the floor and 0-5 on three-point attempts. Miami finished the game shooting 50 percent to 30 percent for Louisville.

The Miami starters made it easy for the Hurricanes to cruise to victory. Miami out shot Louisville 18-31 to 9-24 in the first half. The Hurricanes made four of their nine three-point shots in the first half to 2-10 for Louisville. Miami did what a good team does against one of the worst in the country and took care of business on the road.

Miami had 10 different players score at least five points. The Hurricanes defense was exceptional on Sunday holding the Cardinals to 3-20 on three-point attempts. Miami extended the lead to 32 in the second half while maitaining at least 17 point lead over the final 20 minutes. Louisville was led by Jae’Lyn Withers with 12 points.

Miami basketball team will play Louisville again at the Watsco Center on February 11. Miami begins a five game homestand on Wednesday against Cornell. The Hurricanes will resume ACC play on Saturday versus North Carolina State. Included in the homestand is Virginia on December 20.
