The Miami football program lost cornerback Khamauri Rogers to the transfer portal on Monday and 2023 three-star offensive lineman Connor Lew flipped to Auburn. Rogers is the seventh Miami defensive back to enter the transfer portal and eighth to leave the program with eligibility remaining entering 2023.

Lew is the 517th ranked player, 40th OL and 50th prospect in Georgia in the Class of 2023 in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Miami dropped from the seventh-ranked class after receiving a commitment from four-star running back Chris Johnson on Sunday to eighth after the flip by Lew.

Rogers finished with one tackle against Bethune-Cookman in his lone appearance as a true freshman in 2022. When he signed as a four-star prospect with Miami in 2023, Rogers was the 118th-ranked player, 15th CB and third player in Mississippi. Rogers entering the transfer portal is not surprising.

Rogers’ father Marcus who is a high school coach in Mississippi, criticized Miami DB coach Jahmile Addae during the season starting  “@coachaddae: you are a piece of work but it’s all good. I’m going to pray for you and your family; you obviously have serious issues.” Rogers was primarily recruited by the prior Miami coaching staff.

Rogers was one of a handful of parents of Miami football players who spoke out on social media criticizing coaches. The mother of former Miami wide receiver Key’Shawn Smith who has since transferred to SMU lashed out at offensive coordinator Josh Gattis after he told his players they were the worst ever.

Lew is projected as a center in college. Miami still has four OL committed for 2023 including three-star prospect Antonio Tripp who could eventually be a center. Miami is awaiting Friday when five-star tackle Samson Okunlola will announce his college destination. Florida and Miami are competing for Okunlola.

Expect Miami to target DBs heavily in the transfer portal to replace the seven players who have departed in addition to the decision by third-year junior Tyrique Stevenson to enter the NFL Draft. Miami has three DBs committed for 2023 including five-star CB Cormani McClain. Players can enter the transfer portal through January 18.
