The Miami football program is trending for Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen, Georgia State defensive tackle Thomas Gore and Texas A&M defensive lineman Tunmise Adeleye and close on Oregon wide receiver Dont’e Thornton per the On3 prediction machine. Miami has two 247 Sports crystal balls for Cohen.
Chris Hummer a National Writer for 247 Sports and Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U project Cohen will commit to the Miami football program. The Hurricanes are projected at 99.3 percent to receive a commitment from Gore per On3. Miami has a 97.9 percent chance for a commitment from Adeleye per On.3.
Michigan State is listed second with a 1.8 percent chance for a commitment from Adeleye. Thornton is projected to commit to Auburn at 52.7 percent. Miami is slightly behind Auburn at 46.1 percent per the On3 projections. Adeleye is the 52nd-ranked transfer and fourth-ranked edge rusher in the portal per On3.
Gore is the 29th-ranked transfer and third-best DL per On3. Thornton is the 20th-best transfer WR, but not ranked in the top 97 transfers which is as high as the overall 0n3 rankings go. Mario Cristobal signed Thornton at Oregon. Adeleye redshirted as a true freshman in 2021.
Gore recorded six tackles and a 0.5 tackle for loss in two games in 2022. After recording five tackles and his lone 0.5 TFL versus Appalachian State in week two, Adeleye suffered a season-ending injury. Adeleye was the 41st-ranked player and third edge rusher in the 2021 class.
Gore had 94 tackles, 21.5 TFLs, 11.0 sacks and two forced fumbles in four seasons at Georgia State. The Sun Belt named Gore honorable mention all-conference in 2021. Despite arguably his best season with 38 tackles, eight TFLs, five sacks and two forced fumbles in 2022, Gore was bypassed for all Sun Belt.
Thornton had 26 receptions for 541 receiving yards, 20.8 yards per reception and three touchdowns in two seasons at Oregon. In 2022 Thornton had 17 receptions for 366 yards, a 21.5 YPR and one TD in 2022. Thornton had a career-high four receptions for 151 yards in a 20-17 Oregon win over Utah in November.
Other transfers to watch for Miami are Central Florida cornerback Davonte Brown and Washington State linebacker Francisco Mauigoa. Miami is recruiting Brown’s brother Damari who is in the Class of 2023 and has a commitment from Mauigoa’s five-star offensive tackle brother Francis.
Davante Brown has a 247 Sports crystal ball to the Miami football program from Urrutia. Urrutia logged a crystal ball for Damari to Miami in November. Steve Wiltfong the Director of Football Recruiting for 247 Sports logged a crystal ball for Damari Brown to Alabama on December 13.
The On3 transfer portal prediction machine projects Francisco Mauigoa to Kansas at 100 percent. Some analysts project that if Francisco Mauigoa commits to Miami he would be the favorite as the starting middle LB in 2023. Francis Mauigoa is likely to compete for a starting spot on the Miami OL in 2023.
