The Miami football program officially added Washington State linebacker Francisco Mauigoa as a transfer on Wednesday. Mauigoa joins his brother five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa with the Hurricanes. Francis signed a National Letter of Intent in the 2023 Miami freshman class on Wednesday.

Mauigoa is the second transfer to commit to the Miami football program on Wednesday and the fourth overall. Georgia State defensive lineman Thomas Gore signed with Miami earlier in the day. Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen committed to Miami over the weekend and UCF CB Davonte Brown on Monday.

Brown is joined by his brother four-star CB Damari who signed his NLI with Miami on Wednesday. Mauigoa had 77 tackles, six tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, an interception and three forced fumbles in two seasons at Washington State. Mauigoa had 60 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, one pick six and three forced fumbles in 2022.

Mauigoa will compete with two-year Miami starting LB Corey Flagg. At 6’3, 219 pounds, Mauigoa provides Miami with more length at MLB. As a freshman in 2021 Mauigoa played in 13 games, starting two. Mauigoa is the sixth-ranked transfer LB according to the On3.Com portal rankings.

CaneSport reported on Wednesday that Mauigoa will enroll at Miami in January and take part in spring practice. Mauigoa was a great special teams player as a freshman with 10 of his 17 tackles. Mauigoa had his best game at Washington State in 2022 with eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and recovery.

The breakout game for Mauigoa came in a 38-7 win over Colorado State. Mauigoa is a tackling machine with six games in 2022 with at least six tackles. Coming out of high school Army, Central Florida and San Jose St were the only other offers that Mauigoa had in addition to Washington State.

Miami seemed to be the only serious contender for Mauigoa as a transfer. Miami will have three sets of brothers on the 2023 roster. The Hurricanes also signed twins, Bobby and Robby Washington in the 2023 class on Wednesday. The Browns are the only set of the three Miami brothers to play on the same side of the ball.
