Miami football gets commitment from Georgia State transfer DT Thomas Gore

The Miami football program received its third transfer commitment on Wednesday with Georgia State defensive tackle Thomas Gore pledging to the Hurricanes. Gore had 93 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and two forced fumbles in four seasons at Georgia State. Most of Gore’s numbers came in the last two years.

Gore adds depth to the Miami defensive line after the Hurricanes lost several DL after the 2022 season. The Miami football program adds depth with Gore. Former five-star DT signee Leonard Taylor and Jared Harrison-Hunte are the projected starters for Miami at DT in 2023. Gore has had moderate success versus Power Five opponents.

In games against Auburn, North Carolina twice and South Carolina over the last two seasons, Gore had nine tackles, Gore had a career-high eight tackles in 2021 versus Army, 2.5 tackles for loss three times with the most recent versus Old Dominion in 2022 and 2.5 sacks against the Monarchs in the same game.

Gore was a two-star signee with Georgia State. Gore gradually received more playing time throughout the course of his career at Georgia State which culminated in being named first-team All-Sun Belt by Pro Football Focus. At 6’0, 270 pounds, Gore produces beyond his measurables and recruiting ranking.

The Miami football program received the commitment from Gore after his visit over a week ago. Gore joins Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen and Central Florida cornerback Davonte Brown. Brown was followed to Miami by his brother Damari who committed to the Hurricanes on Wednesday afternoon.

Expect Miami to continue to target depth on the interior of the DL through the traditional National Signing Period in February and via the transfer portal. Three-star DL Joshua Horton is the only defensive tackle is the only DT committed to Miami for 2023. Cristobal told 247 Sports Miami is still targeting DL and outside wide receivers.
