Several programs are reportedly challenging for Five-star cornerback Cormani McClain after the Miami commit delayed his signing with the Hurricanes on Wednesday. The Early National Signing period began on Wednesday and continues through Friday. McClain committed to Miami in late October.

Steve Wiltfong the Director of Football Recruiting for 247 Sports reported that Deion Sanders and Colorado have spoken to Cormani McClain. Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U stated he thinks Miami will hold on and sign McClain, but that Florida is pushing late and to keep an eye on Alabama. McClain is the second-ranked player and top CB.

Cormani McClain is the top commit in the 2023 Miami class in a position of need. Miami lost eight defensive backs after the 2022 season. McClain will be expected to contribute to Miami as a true freshman in 2023. Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports stated he would not be surprised if the McClain recruitment drags on Thursday or Friday.

With McClain in the 2023 Miami class, the Hurricanes rank third nationally per the 247 Sports composite rankings. If McClain signs somewhere else Miami would drop to the fifth class nationally. Miami received national letters of intent from DB Antione Jackson and CB Robert Stafford on Wednesday.

Miami also received a commitment on Monday from Central Florida transfer CB Davonte Brown. Brown’s brother Damari’s commitment is at 3 PM on Wednesday. A commitment from Brown without McClain would still have the 2023 Miami recruiting class ranked fifth nationally. These recruitments are fluid currently.

Most of the projections for Brown are that he will sign with Miami. Alabama is the biggest competitor for Miami to sign Brown. Mario Cristobal made a statement last year when Miami flipped tight end Jaleel Skinner who was previously committed to Alabama. The 2023 Miami class has recruits throughout the country.

The reports that McClain was holding off his commitment began with a tweet from his mother. McClain’s mother Kaishay tweeted on Wednesday morningFALSE ALARM!!!! THERE WILL BE NO SIGNING FOR @CormaniMcClain2 TODAY…. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!!!” McClain’s recruitment is one to watch.
