2 Miami football assistant coaches finish among top 30 recruiters nationally

Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal finished seventh and defensive ends coach Rod Wright 27th in the national 2023 Football Recruiter Rankings as ranked by 247 Sports. Mirabal helped the Miami football program sign one of the best position groups among the 2023 recruiting classes.

Miami signed five-star offensive tackles Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola. The Hurricanes also added three-star offensive linemen Tommy Kinsler, Frankie Tinilau and Antonio Tripp. Kinsler and Tripp are listed as interior OL and Tinilau is a tackle with the potential to move inside later in his career.

Mirabal is credited as the main recruiter for all five OL Miami signed in the 2023 class. Mauigoa is currently the highest-rated signee in the 2023 Miami class. In the 247 Sports composite rankings, Mauigoa is the eighth-ranked signee overall, top OT and the second player in Florida out of IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Okunlola is the 20th-ranked player, third OT and first in Massachusetts in 2023. Kinsler, Tinilau and Tripp are all ranked outside the top 500. Mario Cristobal said of Mauigoa and Okunlola“They are elite monstrosities, play with power, as mean and nasty on the field as you can imagine.”

Wright brought in a smaller but just as elite position group as Mirabal. The Miami football program signed three blue-chip edge rushers with two inside the top 100 attributed to Wright. Rueben Bain had one of the most productive high school careers among 2023 signees nationally and four win state titles at Miami Central.

Wright is credited with Miami signing edge rushers Collins Acheampong and Rueben Bain and being the primary recruiter for Jayden Wayne. Bain and Wayne have the potential to make impacts as true freshmen. Acheampong is more of a long-term project. Bain is one of the most productive prospects in the class of 2023.

The 247 Sports composite rankings have Bain as the 70th prospect, ninth edge rusher and 14th in Florida for 2023. Wayne is 72nd, 11th and 15th out of IMG Academy. Acheampong is intriguing at 6’7, 254 pounds and ranked 154th, 19th and 11th. Acheampong is an elite athlete who has only been playing football for a few years.

Wright with Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor and DL coach Joe Salave’a who was the secondary recruiter for Acheampong provides Miami with an elite group of coaches on the defensive front. The ability of players to learn from Taylor is intriguing for recruits. Miami should continue to attract elite DL.
