Norchad Omier has provided the Miami basketball team with the low post presence they did not have last season. Omier is second in the ACC in field goal percentage, third in rebounding and ninth in blocks at only 6’7. Miami has continued its scramble defense and the four-out one-in, offensive system they used a year ago.

Behind Isaiah Wong and Omier, the Miami basketball team has started the season 12-1 overall and leads the ACC with a 3-0 record. Omier is the third-leading scorer behind Wong and Jordan Miller and leads Miami in blocks and rebounds. Omier has been everything expected after transferring from Arkansas State.

In 13 games this season, Omier has six double-doubles which are 13th nationally. Omier’s performances have him moving up the 247 Sports transfer rankings. Omier is the highest-ranked transfer in the ACC and only one of two ranked in the 247 Sports top 10. The challenges for Omier will be greater in ACC play.

That begins on Friday versus 6’10 Notre Dame forward Nate Laszewski who is averaging 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. In most ACC games Omier is likely to be giving up a few inches to players he’s matched up against. That’s why Jim Larranaga began using the scramble defense.

"8. NORCHAD OMIER, MIAMILast week: 9“Miami is off to a 12-1 start overall and a perfect 3-0 mark in ACC play, and Norchad Omier has his fingerprints all over it. Omier is flirting with averaging a double-double (13.5 points, 9.8 rebounds), and he’s already one of the ACC’s best rim protectors even though he’s only 6-foot-7.Omier delivered 14 points, eight rebounds (five offensive rebounds), four boards and two steals in Miami’s statement, 66-64, win over Virginia. The Arkansas State transfer more than lived up to the hype.”"

Omier has been an anchor for the Miami inside. Miami is second in the ACC shooting 48.1 percent, has a 1.92 rebounding margin and is fifth in the ACC averaging 33 defensive rebounds. Omier will be a key player as Miami makes a run at an ACC championship for the second straight season after finishing fourth in 2022.

With the numbers Omier has as the Miami basketball team begins their core of ACC games, he has a chance to earn All-ACC at the end of the season. Miami big men earning All-ACC in Larranaga’s guard-oriented offense is rare. The Hurricanes have a chance for another special season with Omier manning the post.
