Cormani McClain named Under Armour All-America biggest enigma
The drama surrounding Cormani McClain earned him the biggest enigma during Under Armour All-America week from Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports. McClain announced during the Under Armour All-America game on Tuesday that he will be announcing which program he will sign a National Letter of Intent with on January 15.
The announcement by McClain on Monday created a lot of speculation and projected analysis on social media regarding body language by McClain. McClain was asked if he was considering other schools and said no. The proclamation by McClain was not believed by everyone watching the interview.
McClain committed to Miami in October after most national recruiting sites projected Florida as the leader for a commitment. Most recruiting analysts project McClain to announce he will sign with Miami, but it’s going to be a long 10 days. Miami has the fourth-ranked 2023 class that includes McClain and 25 signees.
With or without McClain Miami will sign a top-10 class. If McClain signs elsewhere Miami would drop to the fifth-ranked 2023 class falling behind Oklahoma. McClain is the second-ranked player, top CB and player in Florida in the class of 2023. McClain would be the third five-star signee for Miami in 2023.
"BIGGEST ENIGMA: MIAMI CB COMMIT CORMANI MCCLAIN“Cormani McClain has all the tools to be a shutdown outside cornerback, but this week kind of left us wanting to see more. Yeah, he broke up a pass on Tuesday, but he didn’t participate in any 1-on-1 sessions due to a lingering shoulder issue and wasn’t present for Monday’s walk-through.On top of all that, McClain’s recruitment remains one big mystery. After electing to not sign early despite a near two-month commitment to the Hurricanes, McClain said in an interview with ESPN2 that he will be “signing” Jan. 15, which is not an official signing window. Will McClain be inking some type of paperwork with Miami? It sounds like it, but you never really know with McClain.”"
McClain will have an opportunity to play immediately at Miami. Colorado and Florida would likely also provide immediate playing time. At Alabama McClain would likely have to wait to compete for playing time behind a perpetually deep and talented secondary. Miami has three other CBs in the 2023 class.
Damari Brown are natural CBs with Antione Jackson listed as a safety with the projection of moving to CB. Miami also added Central Florida CB Davonte Brown, the brother of Damari. Enigma is the perfect description for McClain. All the talent is there for him to be an elite player but he has to avoid the drama.
