Miami basketball falls AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls

The Miami basketball program fell four spots to 16th in the AP Top 25 and three to 15th USA Today Coaches poll released on Monday following its 76-70 loss at Georgia Tech on Wednesday. Miami only played Georgia Tech last week. Miami has 604 points in the AP Top 25, nine points behind Arkansas.

The Hurricanes received 329 points in the coaches poll which is three behind Iowa State. Iowa State moved up 11 spots in the polls. The 12th ranking Miami held in both polls last week was the highest for the Hurricanes since 2017 when they were sixth. Miami is 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC tied with Pittsburgh for second place.

The Miami basketball team hosts Boston College on Wednesday and plays at North Carolina State on Saturday this week. Miami is 43rd in the NCAA Net Ratings after being ranked in the lower 30s recently. The loss at Georgia Tech falls in quadrant three with the Yellow Jackets ranked 147th in the Net Ratings.

Miami needs to defeat Boston College which is 213th in the Net Ratings. North Carolina State is 27th in the Net Ratings. A Hurricanes win over the Wolfpack would be a huge Quad I road win. Miami is 3-1 on the road this season and 5-1 versus Quad I. The Hurricanes are 3-1 versus Quad II and 9-0 versus quad II.

Miami has not played a game versus Quad II. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports currently has Miami as a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Miami has only played three games in the last 23 days after the Vermont game was canceled last month due to weather issues for the Catamounts being able to fly out.

Miami will play two games per week for the rest of the season. Miami has three consecutive road games at Duke, Florida State and Pittsburgh later this month. The Hurricanes finish the 2022-23 regular season with six out of their last nine games at home. Number 13/12 Virginia and 24/21 Duke are the only other ranked ACC teams.
