It was mostly a good week for the Miami Hurricanes with football signees Mark Fletcher and Nathaniel Joseph scoring touchdowns at the All-American Game and Central Florida transfer center Matt Lee committing plus the women’s basketball team defeated a pair of ranked opponents.

The 12th-ranked men’s basketball team was upset at Georgia Tech on Wednesday night. Expect Miami to plummet when the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll are announced on Monday. The 13-2 start is still the best since the 2015-16 team began the season with the same record. Miami is 4-1 in the ACC and tied for second.

Joseph scored his touchdown out of the Wildcat. Fletcher beat a linebacker out of the backfield for an 81-yard TD reception. Fletcher showed he is more than just a tough inside runner with the versatility to beat teams as a receiver. Miami offensive lineman Samson Okunlola also played in the All-American Game.

The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team defeated number 22 North Carolina 62-58 at the Watsco Center on Thursday and followed that up with a 77-66 victory over ninth-ranked Virginia Tech on Sunday. Miami now has a three-game winning streak. The Hurricanes are 10-6 overall and are 3-2 in the ACC tied for fifth.

Lee is the second transfer Miami added on the OL for 2023. Alabama transfer OL Javion Cohen announced his intention to join Miami last month. Miami has also added Lee’s former UCF teammate, cornerback Davonte Brown, Georgia State defensive tackle Thomas Gore and Washington State linebacker Francisco Mauigoa.

Brown is the brother of 2023 Miami signee Damari and Mauigoa’s brother is five-star OT Francis. January should still be a busy month for the Miami football program. Expect head coach Mario Cristobal to continue recruiting DTs and WRs through the transfer portal. The traditional National Signing Day is February 1.

Cristobal is known as a strong closer. Last year Miami flipped tight end Jaleel Skinner from Alabama and signed running back Tre’Vonte Citizen when most projections had him signing with Florida. Cristobal and the Miami football program probably have a few surprises ahead of them in the next three weeks plus.
