Miami Hurricanes News: McClain Drama, Hoops loses at NC State
After being committed to the Miami Hurricanes football program for over two months, five-star cornerback Cormani McClain appears to be on the verge of flipping to Colorado. More drama emerged on Saturday with McClain claiming he was in Tampa when pictures came out of him in Colorado.
The Miami basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and had the lead late but lost in overtime at North Carolina State. Miami needed a three-point shot from Jordan Miller to force overtime. The Hurricanes led by three in overtime but 17 turnovers ultimately doomed them in the loss with several other factors.
Isaiah Wong continues to roll scoring 25 points in the loss. Miami has a quick turnaround playing its third game in six days when it hosts Syracuse on Monday night at the Watsco Center. Miami is 14-3 overall and 5-2 tied with Pittsburgh and Virginia for second place in the ACC. Clemson leads the ACC at 7-0.
Miami Hurricanes’ social media was abuzz on Saturday discussing McClain. Speculation ran wild on social media about what decision McClain will make on Sunday. Both 247 Sports and On3 logged projections that McClain will flip to Colorado on Sunday. Despite that, some fans tried to discredit the reports.
The Miami women’s basketball team will go for its fifth straight win on Sunday when the Hurricanes host Wake Forest. Miami is 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the ACC. Wake Forest is 11-7 overall and 2-5 in the ACC. The winning streak by Miami has moved them up to a tie for fourth in the ACC with Louisville and Syracuse.
David Lake of Inside the U examined “Why Miami’s 2023 recruiting class (and cornerback class) is strong with or without 5-star Cormani McClain.” Miami has added several promising CBs in the 2023 class and through the transfer portal. The Miami Herald and Inside the U examined the early enrollees matriculating this week.
Miami begins classes on Tuesday and 15 freshmen and the six transfers the Hurricanes have added over the last month will begin their Coral Gables careers. Mario Cristobal and the Miami football staff will continue targeting players through the traditional National Signing Day on February 1 and through the transfer portal.
