Miami Hurricanes News: FB adds TE, Hoops hosts Syracuse

The Miami Hurricanes football team received a commitment from eighth-year tight end Cameron McCormick from Oregon. McCormick was on the Oregon roster all four seasons Miami head coach Mario Cristobal led the Ducks. The Miami basketball team returns home to host Syracuse on Sunday night.

McCormick has had significant injuries throughout his college career that caused him to miss the entire 2019 and 2020 seasons, play one game in 2018 and two in 2021 before suffering season-ending injuries. McCormick had 10 receptions for 66 yards and three touchdowns during the 2022 season.

Miami gains an experienced player to add to a mostly inexperienced TE group. The Miami Hurricanes return Elijah Arroyo who missed most of the 2022 season with an injury, Jaleel Skinner, Khalil Brantley and Dominic Mammarelli. Miami signed TEs Jackson Carver and Riley Williams in the 2023 class.

The Miami basketball team returns to the Watsco Center on Monday night to host Syracuse after losing at North Carolina State on Saturday. Miami will not return home until they host Virginia Tech on January 31. The Hurricanes play on Saturday at Duke, January 24 at Florida State and January 28 at Pittsburgh.

The Miami women’s basketball team won its fifth straight on Sunday with a 55-43 victory over Wake Forest. Miami outscored Wake Forest 13-2 in the second quarter to take a 25-15 halftime lead. Destiny Harden returned for Miami after a recent injury to lead the Hurricanes with 13 points.

After stating he would make an announcement on his commitment on Sunday five-star cornerback Cormani McClain who is committed to Miami did not have any news. McClain has been trending all weekend as he was reportedly visiting Colorado which he finally confirmed on Sunday per On3.

On Sunday evening former Duke linebacker Rocky Shelton committed to Miami. Shelton had 10 tackles in 2022 but was not a part of the Duke program in 2021. The best season for Shelton was 2020 when Shelton had 35 tackles, 3.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks. Shelton had four tackles, 2.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks versus Notre Dame in 2020.

Three times in 2020 Shelton had six or more tackles. Shelton returns to South Florida with the commitment to Miami. Shelton starred in high school at St. Thomas Aquinas. Shelton chose Duke over about a dozen other schools when he signed with Duke in the class of 2017. Shelton unofficially visited Miami in October 2016.
