Miami football adds critical depth and experience with Iowa CB Terry Roberts
The Miami football program added critical depth and experience to its roster on Monday with had addition of former Iowa cornerback Terry Roberts. Roberts affirmed his transfer from Iowa with a tweet late on Monday afternoon. Miami lost eight defensive backs from its 2022 roster. Roberts played in only five games in 2022.
Iowa signed Roberts out of Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pennsylvania as the 1193rd prospect, 104th cornerback and 29th player in the state in the class of 2018. Roberts redshirted as a true freshman in 2018. In four seasons with Iowa, Roberts had 47 tackles, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Roberts will compete for snaps behind Miami returnees Te’Cory Couch and Darryl Porter Jr. and Central Florida transfer Davonte Brown in 2023. Per Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U, Pro Football Focus graded Roberts with a 79.9 coverage grade in 2022. Roberts had 14 tackles, two passes defended and an interception in 2022.
Roberts is the eighth transfer overall and fifth on defense added to the 2023 Miami football roster. Miami previously added defensive tackles Branson Deen from Purdue and Thomas Gore from Georgia State, linebacker Francisco Mauigoa and Brown to the 2023 defense. Expect more transfers added in the spring.

Roberts chose to make his commitment to Miami public on Monday after being with the program for a week per Urrutia. Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Steele visited Roberts in Iowa City to recruit Roberts. Roberts could be a key contributor to Miami on special teams. Roberts four of the 33 games he played for Iowa.
Brown and Roberts are key additions giving Miami four experienced CBs with Couch and Porter on the roster. Miami also signed Damari Brown (brother of Davonte), Antione Jackson and Robert Stafford who will compete for snaps at CB in 2023. Roberts will not add exceptional size at 5’10, 180 pounds.
