Miami Hurricanes news: DT weekend visit, WBB loses at Wake Forest
The Miami Hurricanes hosted three-star Chicago defensive tackle Jamel Howard this weekend. Howard is trending to Michigan before Wednesday’s National Signing Day, but never count out Mario Cristobal closing on a recruit. The Miami women’s basketball mimicked the men’s Saturday loss in a defeat at Wake Forest.
Howard is 6’3, 320 with the potential to be a run stuffer for Miami. The 247 Sports composite ranks Howard as the 1,186th prospect, 127th defensive lineman and 25th in Illinois in the Class of 2023. Howard would be the first true DT in the 2023 Miami Hurricanes class. Miami signed three DL in the class of 2023.
Rueben Bain is the highest-rated 2023 Miami Hurricanes signee and with Jayden Wayne edge rushers for Miami in the future. Bain has the ability to play inside or outside. Defensive lineman Collins Acheampong is 6’7, 254 pounds and a project with a lot of upside because of the length he has.
Howard improved significantly as a senior in 2021 at Marist. Howard improved from 27 tackles, four tackles for loss, 0.5 a sack and one pass defended in nine games in 2021 to 53 tackles, eight TFLs, three sacks, a forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2022. Michigan is trending for Howard with Miami a distant second.
The Miami women’s basketball team had the ball down one point with four seconds left when Destiny Harden dribbled off her foot. Wake Forest made two free throws and Harden missed a jumper and Miami lost for the second time in three games, 55-52 at Wake Forest. Miami plays at Clemson on Thursday.
